Extreme close ups aren't used as much close ups however they are very effective if used correctly. The main purpose of ECU's is to reveal or conceal a persons intentions or emotional state. They can also be used on items to foreshadow future events. This shot of Harry Potter is very effect as the reflection of Dumbledore creates a link with Harry through his glasses.
Extreme close ups are used in hight action packed films, horrors and thrillers, therefore, my teaser trailer, which I intend to be a thriller, should include a ECU.
In my teaser trailer, I think the ECU would be extremely useful as it would fit my chosen genre greatly. I will be able to show characters emotional state or to reveal their intentions. For my genre which I think will be action, the ECU will determine whether or not my teaser trailer is effective or not.
