Analysis Of 'Million Dollar Baby.'

We analysed 'Million Dollar Baby' with the scenes in which 'Maggie' gets knocked out and canalised analysed them in 3 different types of medial ways; 'Sound, Editing and Camera Work'. I analysed 'Sound' and here is what I found:
Punch: It is a diegetic sound and is amplified making a 'swinging' sound. This illustrates the importance of this punch as it is an illegal punch and outlines the seriousness of the situation. The punch moment that changes the whole film.
Lack of/or Minimal Sound: After recieving the blow she falls to the floor in slow motion. The sound is then faded down to again emphasise the punch. The numbing sound also reflects the sound of her becoming absent of hearing after being hit. This technique is very effective and could be used in my own teaser trailer. Movies such as action packed films where there is fighting would be useful to incorporate the fading down of sound.
Crack Of Neck: The crack of the neck is the 'click' or change of the film. It is amplified to shows the seriousness again and to show how feeble she now is from one action. This is the turning point.
Music(sad): This kicks in when the realisation of the situation. It ties in with the crowds reaction and again would be useful in my piece as I could outline a certain point in my trailer.
Dialogue: As she is on the ground, the voice of the man is echoed to show her fight in and out of consciousness. It reflects how lifeless she is and is a good method of showing her point-of-view.
Whimpering: It emphasises that she has no power now. Contrasts with her being all powerful. She has nothing now and is emotionally broken down.

In my opinion, the music kicking in right at the moment is the key part of the sound. It gives mood and emotion and is open to interpretation. This music here in my opinion was used to create sympathy for 'Maggie' and to make us empathise within her character. It also flowed well as the music linked the audience in the film together as they too wept for 'Maggie'. I may include this as it is good for setting moods and can instantly create tension when brought in.
